1. Deciding a location for XAS installation
preliminary location of this page is at IFCTR
interim location of this page should be at ITESRE
final location of this page should be at SAX-SDC
The installation of XAS can be done from any user account and requires no system privileges.
It is suggested that you create a dedicated account (e.g. "xas") and have all XAS files
owned by this account, but any other arrangement (personal accounts, system accounts) is
also possible.
- If you have never installed XAS (or you want to make a new installation) you must decide a directory
for the software installation.
Create this directory and define global variable XASTOP
- Unix
mkdir /dir
setenv XASTOP /dir (csh) or
XASTOP=/dir ; export XASTOP (sh, ksh)
cd $XASTOP
- VMS
CREATE/DIRECTORY disk:[dir]
DEFINE $XASTOP disk:[dir.]
SET DEF disk:[dir]
- otherwise just use your pre-existing $XASTOP directory : if you really want to do this,
you must start from a fresh directory, that is you should delete all old files.
- in both cases you will need a scratch area where to put temporarily the kits (tar files or BACKUP
savesets) which you retrieve. You may delete the kits once installed. This area will be
indicated below as scratchdir
