XAS was originally designed to be portable at least among VMS and Unix.
Its design, based on the isolation of system dependent code in a very
small "VOS" library. has proven a successful approach, and all the other
source code is system-independent.
The following is the situation concerning support of various operating systems.
DEC/OSF 1
Officially supported
Ported and tested under Digital Unix (formerly OSF/1) 3.2 with DEC/Fortran 3.8
on an AlphaStation 255/233.
This has become the current master development system since August 1996.
DEC/Ultrix
Officially supported
Developed and tested under Ultrix 4.3 with DEC/Fortran 3.2 on a DECstation 5000/33
This was the master development system until August 1996. Such platform is no longer
supported at IFCTR.
VAX VMS
Official limited support
Limited testing under VAX VMS 5.4-2 with VAX Fortran 5.6 on a VAX 8250
Much of the earlier development work was done on this system, however the VAX machine is
currently running without maintenance contract, and support will last until the machine
is available.
AXP VMS
Currently not supported
Planning for a port to Alpha with AXP VMS has been studied, and should involve limited changes.
However at the moment it is not planned any availability of such a system, and therefore no
work in this area is planned (volunteers are welcome).
Sun SunOS 4.1.x
Unsupported port
Limited testing under SunOS 4.1.3 with Sun Fortran 1.4 on a Sun IPX (Sparc)
This was arranged privately by
Lucio Chiappetti
and no formal support is intended. SAX SDC might be supporting a XAS version under a
slightly different configuration.
Sun Solaris 2
Currently not supported
No support is planned for Solaris 2 on Suns, since there is no availability of such a machine,
and no intention to go to it soon.
CHANGE : unsupported port
An unsupported port was arranged originally by Daniele Dal Fiume for Arcetri
Observatory and later re-arranged by Lucio Chiappetti on the Solaris 2.5.1 Suns
at IFCTR. No formal support intended.
HP-UX
Unsupported port
Limited testing under HP-UX 9.01 with HP Fortran (73.5 ?) on an HP 9000/735
This was arranged privately by
Daniele Dal Fiume
and no formal support is intended.
